The Bionic Harpist is a collaborative research-creation project by harpist Alexandra Tibbitts and music technologist John Sullivan. The work began in 2017 with an exploratory investigation around gesture, sound and electroacoustic harp performance, and has evolved into the development of bespoke hardware to augment the concert harp and a responsive system for Tibbitts to mix acoustic harp with sampling, looping and processing of audio and visual content for immersive live solo performance.

Alex is currently engaged in a residency at Avatar, a centre in Québec City dedicated to the research, creation, circulation and dissemination of audio and electronic artworks and artists. The team is joined by visual and multimedia artists Marine Chavet and Nathalie LeBlanc in development of a live performance for the upcoming MUTEK Festival in Montréal from September 8 to 13.
